The drama was distributed in more than 70 markets worldwide, Story of Yanxi Palace has since become a huge hit, especially in Asia. It was the most Googled TV show in the world in 2018, despite Google being blocked in Mainland China.

Many of the film props and costumes used as centerpieces exquisitely made articles from traditional Chinese crafts that are dying out with few master-level experts remaining to pass on their skills to the next generation. The acquisition of these skills requires a lifetime commitment to perfect, since they are unsurprisingly labor-intensive, demanding a sharp eye and tireless hands in order to replicate in painstaking detail the exclusive nature of their beauty.
Xu Kai Trivia
Xu Kai was not originally intended for the Fu Heng role. The role was first offered to a veteran actor who rejected because he is unwilling to shave his head. Later on due to time constrains, director Hui Kaidong suggest to Yu Zheng to test Xu Kai for the role. Hui Kaidong likes what he see as he said Xu Kai has an expressive eyes and gave the role to Xu Kai.
Xu Kai shaved his head fully for the role. He said it is especially hard during the scorching hot day as there is no hair to cover you from the heat and it goes straight to the scalp causing heat strokes among the male cast.
